Thoughts On Work

I do not believe humans were meant to spend a majority of their waking hours repetitively performing a job that they are not passionate about and requires (or allows) little thought, creativity, and autonomy. Unfortunately, as a society, this is the game most have agreed to play. One option is to reject this game all together and go live in a monastery, but with a family to support, I think my opportunity to don the orange robe has passed. So I choose to the play the game in a way that I find more enjoyable:

1. I solve problems that I am passionate about. 2. I apply deep thinking and creativity to my work. 3. I am always looking for new and interesting challenges.

And once I have won the game I will stop playing. When is the game won? When I have enough wealth to support a comfortable lifestyle for my family, no longer need to exchange my time for money, and can spend my time only doing what I enjoy. Perhaps it’s naive to think I will walk away, as so few do. Maslow might have been on to something when he put self-actualization at the top of the pyramid.

What I Do

I have entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy creating, growing, investing in, and advising businesses that solve problems I am interested in; I find it creative, impactful, and fulfilling. I have spent my career working in early stage healthcare businesses to develop and commercialize advanced medical technology. Working in early stage businesses has enabled me to take on large and diverse responsibilities and gain experience across all aspects of the business. I tend to focus on healthcare (med-tech, medical device, etc.) because I am passionate about health, wellness, and being physically active.

Prior to joining the private commercial sector, I worked in biomedical research and co-authored 25 peer-reviewed articles in top medical journals. I have degrees in biomedical and mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University and University of Denver.
